Alexis Mac Allister Shifts Focus Despite Scoring “Best Goal” of His Career

Liverpool’s midfielder, Alexis Mac Allister, found joy in momentarily breaking free from his defensive responsibilities to net what he considers the “best goal of my life.” The Argentine international’s stunning 30-yard strike into the top corner during Sunday’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Fulham marked his first goal for the club since joining from Brighton in the summer.

Reflecting on his spectacular goal, Mac Allister said, “I had a nice one against Leicester [for Brighton], but it was disallowed, so I think it was the best goal I scored in my life. When I play as a number six, I am not very worried about goals and assists because I have other work to do, but it’s always nice to score.”

Despite Mac Allister’s standout performance, defensive lapses allowed Fulham to equalize twice and take the lead in the final 10 minutes. The match concluded with a dramatic comeback, with Wataru Endo and Trent Alexander-Arnold scoring in quick succession to secure victory and maintain Liverpool’s flawless Anfield record with 11 wins this season.

Acknowledging some sloppiness in Liverpool’s game, Captain Virgil van Dijk emphasized the importance of securing points during a busy December schedule. Van Dijk said, “If we win these types of games the way we do now, it’s not a bad thing, so we have to take the positives out of it, especially during this busy period that starts now.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold played a crucial role in the victory, initiating the scoring with an impressive free-kick. When Mac Allister was substituted with 25 minutes remaining, Alexander-Arnold seamlessly transitioned to central midfield, impressing Van Dijk with his versatility. Van Dijk commented, “When he has the ball at his feet and he is free, he can put the ball wherever he wants, and that is a big quality. Opponents know it as well. His contribution to two goals and importance on the offensive side is good, and it is something we’re going to need, so let’s keep it going.”
