Virgil van Dijk Expresses Admiration for Liverpool Teammate Darwin Nunez’s Remarkable Improvement

Virgil van Dijk has named the Liverpool teammate he believes can do everything – and is only getting better right now.

Liverpool have returned to form in some style this season. With a whole new midfield coming in, many would have expected the Reds to need some time this year before they were back battling with Manchester City.

However, Liverpool have been superb this term. And one of the players who appears to be almost transformed in recent times is Darwin Nunez.

Virgil van Dijk praises Darwin Nunez

Nunez has come in for a lot of criticism during his time on Merseyside. It did not help that he arrived for a substantial fee in the same window as Erling Haaland. But he now appears to be finding his feet.

The Uruguayan has scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions. The fans have never lost faith in Nunez. And their faith is now being repaid.

And speaking on the Men In Blazers podcast, Virgil van Dijk outlined how impressed he has been by the 24-year-old, and shared how much he would dislike playing against him.

“Darwin, in my opinion, is a handful for any defender. He keeps running, he’s direct, he’s fast. He can jump, he can do everything as a modern-day striker. And it’s very difficult to play against him. Obviously, I played against him once away against Benfica, and he was very direct, and very, very fast,” he said.

It’s a challenging journey. It poses difficulties for any defender, and Darwin is actively learning and improving with each passing day. His current momentum is quite commendable, and it’s precisely what our team requires. Confidence is crucial for him, and it’s evident that he’s in a positive state of mind. Feeling at ease within the group is a significant factor.

Taking on the responsibility that followed Roberto Firmino’s departure in the summer was no small feat for Nunez. Firmino had achieved hero status during his time at Liverpool. While there are instances when Nunez misses opportunities, the impact of those misses is diminishing because he consistently contributes goals at various stages of the game.

His recent form over the past few months strongly suggests that Nunez is poised for a remarkably bright future”
