Jason McAteer Reveals Insights on Klopp’s Departure from Liverpool

When news broke that Jurgen Klopp might be leaving Liverpool this season, Jason McAteer was filled with concern.

The 52-year-old initially feared Klopp might be unwell upon hearing the news.

“I reached out to someone with insider knowledge, and my initial fear was that there might be an illness affecting Jurgen,” McAteer shared on The Debrief Podcast.

However, reassurance came from an insider at the club, who informed McAteer that Klopp had simply “run out of steam.”

“My contact within the club assured me that Jurgen was okay, just feeling drained and needing a break,” McAteer added.

While Klopp is set to take a sabbatical, speculation is rife that the German Football Association (DFB) has its eyes on him for the Germany role post-European Championship.

Regarding Klopp’s potential move, Steve Kay of Football Transfers reported that the DFB is open to accommodating his desire for a break.

However, Julian Nagelsmann’s current role with the national team could complicate matters, with uncertainty over his future beyond the Euros.

With Klopp’s impending departure, Liverpool is facing the task of finding his successor, with several names in the mix including Xabi Alonso, Franck Haise, Ruben Amorim, Nagelsmann, and Roberto De Zerbi.

While Bayer Leverkusen’s boss appears to be the front-runner, navigating competition with Bayern Munich and his own preferences poses a challenge.

In this scenario, the expertise of Michael Edwards could prove invaluable in making headway.
