Liverpool Offer Perfect Player for Newcastle in Anthony Gordon Transfer Deal

Liverpool have rejected Newcastle United’s proposal to sign winger Anthony Gordon due to a demand for Jarell Quansah in return. However, this transfer saga might still have legs.

According to the ECHO, Liverpool turned down Newcastle’s approach after the Magpies requested young defender Jarell Quansah as part of the deal. Quansah had a promising breakthrough season, marred only by a mistake punished by Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes. It came as no surprise that Liverpool were unwilling to part with the 21-year-old.

Newcastle’s eagerness to offload players hints at financial pressure. With the Profit and Sustainability accounting deadline looming on June 30, Eddie Howe’s side needs to balance the books to avoid potential penalties. This urgency has led Newcastle to explore various player swaps, including discussions with Nottingham Forest involving Anthony Elanga and Elliot Anderson.

The financial strain may also force Newcastle to consider big-money sales of key players like Alexander Isak or Bruno Guimaraes. Chelsea has shown interest in Isak, while Guimaraes is on the radar of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain. Liverpool also admires the Brazilian midfielder.

Despite Howe’s desire to retain both players, Newcastle CEO Darren Eales acknowledged the necessity of trading players under financial constraints. “Any decision we make will always be against the backdrop of the medium to long-term benefit for the club,” Eales explained. “If we’re going to get to where we want to get to, at times it is necessary to trade your players.”

Given Newcastle’s financial predicament, Liverpool has an opportunity to propose a different player in the deal. An ideal solution would be to offer goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher. Kelleher, seeking regular first-team football, might find this move beneficial. Liverpool previously rejected a bid from Nottingham Forest for Kelleher, valuing him at around £30 million.

Newcastle, needing a new shot-stopper after losing Loris Karius and with Martin Dubravka’s future uncertain, have been in talks with Burnley for James Trafford. However, progress has stalled, making Kelleher an attractive alternative.

Kelleher would likely compete with Nick Pope for the starting role at Newcastle, a more favorable proposition compared to challenging Alisson at Liverpool. By offering Kelleher, Liverpool could facilitate a mutually beneficial deal, allowing them to acquire Gordon while helping Newcastle address their financial and squad needs.
